Many of the scenes in my book Islands of Deception are based on actual locations. This is the case in Chapter 5 where there is a scene at a church that Cally (a main character) attended during his growing up years. I won’t give too much more detail for the sake of those who have not read the book, but this location plays a critical role in the plot.
The descriptions of the church are based on the church I attended during my childhood. In the book, “Cally looked up at the high, vaulted ceiling as they walked down the long, center aisle toward the front pew.” He also notes the gold stars painted on the ceiling. In another scene, Cally looks at a statue of Jesus with outstretched arms on a platform to the right of the altar.
Below is a recent picture of the church entrance in the small town of Fowler where I grew up. If you’ve read the book, you may recognize the cement stairs rising up to the oak doors as mentioned in the book as well as the “church steeple rising high above them” in the above photo.
